We’ve added MOM, Senator Gwen Margolis to the Spouses Selling Houses Team. Professionally Gwen has been a licensed real-estate Broker (Broker-Associate) and an investor in South Florida for more than five decades.
Senator Margolis began her public service career in the Florida Legislature when elected to the House of Representatives in 1974 then re-elected for three additional terms. Her career in the Florida Senate began in 1980, where she was appointed to Chair the Finance, Tax and Claims Committee, and later the Appropriations Committee where she assisted in leading the state out of budgetary crisis.
On November 20, 1990, Senator Margolis became the first woman to serve as President of any Senate in the Unites States of America. She spearheaded the passage of landmark legislation touted as the toughest ethics legislation in the nation, as well as a constitutional amendment that opened all government records and meetings to the public, Government In The Sunshine.
From 1993 to 2002 the Senator served as a commissioner on the Miami-Dade County Commission serving as Chairperson for six of those years. She returned to the Florida Senate in 2002 serving the people of Florida in Tallahassee until 2008. In 2010 she was elected once again to serve the people of District 35.
Senator Margolis has received numerous awards for her leadership and dedication to the community. Statewide she has also received several awards from the Florida Chamber of Commerce including, the “Economic Development” award and the “Legislator of the Year” award. In addition, she has received the “Good Government” award from the Dade County League of Cities, and the “Glass Ceiling” award from the Florida Federation of Business and Professional Women. She was also honored by the Women’s Hall of Fame.
Senator Margolis serves on the Board of Directors of the World Trade Center, Holocaust Documentation and Education Center, Jewish Home for the Aged, The Actor’s Playhouse and Maximum Dance Company. Her name is in the Who’s Who of Women in the World, Who’s Who in Business and Industry and Who’s Who of American Women.
Senator Margolis has been instrumental in the State’s Economical Development. As your Senator she will continue to stand for new job development; a more efficient and productive sales tax system; to continue promoting tourism in the beautiful county of Miami-Dade; and to get people back to work. She has four adult children, as well as her pride and joy, seven grandchildren.
